  12. share it.   Anyway's here it is.

  14. Subject: US Robotics 28.8 Sportster Dropoff Problem

  17. There have been a fair number of AGT Planet customers using US
  18. Robotics 28.8 Sportster modems who have reported being 'dropped off'
  19. suddenly when connected to AGT Planet.
  20.  
  21. US Robotics has admitted to a problem with these modem's ROM chips
  22. overheating and then causing disconnects.  They are sending ROM chip
  23. upgrades to customers who request them by calling: 1-708-982-5151.
  24. Unfortunately this number is very busy so you end up waiting a while
  25. in their queue.  The ROM upgrade was free, but I haven't been able to
  26. get US Robotics to verify if they're charging  anything for it now.

  28. To find out if your modem is one of the ones they recognize as having
  29. this problem:

  31. - From your Internet dialer screen where you can type modem commands, 
  32.   type: ati7
  33.   This will come back and tell you the date of your modem's ROM chips.
  34. If your
  35.   Internet dialer software doesn't let you type commands directly to
  36. your modem,
  37.   you will need to use some type of communications program that will.
  38. An
  39.   example of this type of software is the 'Terminal' program in
  40. Windows 3.1. - If the date is older than April 18/95, your modem is
  41. one of the ones that is
  42.   eligible for the upgrade.

  45. ROMs:
